    Economy News - Baghdad
Water strategy and policy expert, Mohammed Alaa, revealed that Iraq produces more than 6 million cubic meters of wastewater daily.
Alaa said, "The scarcity of water and its pollution will result in disasters that could threaten the residents of entire areas with thirst, in addition to the negative environmental and health effects."
He explained that "Iraq produces more than 6 million cubic meters of wastewater daily, and this huge amount causes serious environmental pollution, as many Iraqi provinces face great difficulties in treating this water adequately, and therefore the problem of treating wastewater is a real challenge in Iraq."
Alaa pointed out that "most of the sewage is discharged into rivers and public sewers without adequate treatment, which leads to the pollution of groundwater and surface water and poses a threat to public health and the environment, especially wastewater from hospitals, oil plants and refineries in addition to that."
Alaa called for "real supervision in order to get rid of the problem, prevent sewage discharge into the water, and punish the parties that do so."
