The Ministry of Commerce confirmed, on Tuesday, the implementation of government procedures to ensure the continuity of the flow of food supplies during the two days of the population census.
The ministry's spokesman, Mohammed Hanoun, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the Ministry of Commerce is continuing the process of preparing food items related to the card and the food basket, and there is coordination with private sector unions; for the purpose of maintaining food items during the days of the population census."
He added, "There is a great flow of food supplies within the shops within the geographical area," indicating that "there are government measures to prevent any crisis during the population census and to ensure the continuity of the flow of these supplies."
He stressed that "all food items are available in the shops, and trade continues with the process of preparing food items before and after the general population census."
The general population census in Iraq will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, and will include all governorates, including the Kurdistan Region. It aims to provide accurate and comprehensive data on the population, its geographical distribution, and living standards, as the government announced the imposition of a curfew during Wednesday and Thursday.
