This is confirmed by the indicators available from the 2018 Multi Indicator Cluster Survey conducted by the Ministry of Planning in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
The proportion of married women under the age of 15 (7.2%) of women in the age group (20-24 years), ie born (1994-1998) and of this age group there are (28%) married under the age of 18 years.
These percentages are almost identical between urban and rural areas, with the highest percentage in Maysan Governorate (35%) and the lowest in Dohuk (18%).
Among women in the age group (20-49 years), those who were born (1969-1994), about 25% of them married before the age of 18 and 6% before the age of 15 years.
The indicators show the relationship between education and early marriage. It is lower among those with a preparatory certificate and above to about 7%, and it rises in the lower education levels to about 34% for uneducated women.
