The UN Security Council voted on Wednesday to set up a six-month UN mission to monitor the ceasefire in Yemen and oversee the withdrawal of the warring forces.

Western media said the council would vote at 1430 GMT today, and was expected to approve the draft resolution drafted by Britain and allow the deployment of up to 75 observers.

Unarmed observers will be sent to the Hodeidah-controlled town of Hodeidah, along with the port of Salif and Ras Issa for an initial period of six months.

And the port of Hodeidah the entrance of most imported goods and humanitarian aid to Yemen.

Talks between the Saudi-backed government and the Houthis last month in Sweden to end the devastating war led to agreement on a monitoring force.

Last month, the council authorized the first group of some 20 observers to start work in Yemen, but their mission expires on January 20.

The draft resolution calls on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich to deploy a mission to support the Hodeidah agreement "expeditiously" under the command of retired Dutch general Patrick Camart.

The United Nations says the cease-fire, which took effect on December 18 in Hodeidah, remains firm
