{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The legal expert, Tariq Harb, confirmed that the American-Iraqi agreement concluded between the two countries in 2008 determined how to withdraw from it, after a year has passed.
Harb said in a press statement, "The Strategic Framework Agreement between America and Iraq authorized each party to withdraw after informing the other party that wanted to withdraw and a year passed."
He explained, "This is the rule of law promulgated by Parliament No. 52 of 2008, which includes ratification of this agreement, as well as the President of the United States ratified this agreement in accordance with his powers under the US constitution, and Iraq and America deposited a copy of this agreement with the United Nations in accordance with Article 102 of the Charter of the United Nations." .
Harb added, "The agreement has taken the international character and Parliament cannot cancel it by canceling the ratification law No. 52 of 2008, but it is possible for Iraq to inform the United States of its desire to end the agreement. After a year of this warning, the agreement is canceled according to international law and the internal law of America and Iraq as long as the agreement was given to each party. Withdrawal after this period, and accordingly, Iraq may withdraw from this agreement according to its decision.
He stressed that "the warning of withdrawal is considered effective if issued by the Council of Ministers, and America is informed of the official methods and the period of one year has passed."
