Street fighting awaits the Iraqi Army now when they should be fighting outside the cities.
[ Editor's Note:  You just can't make this stuff up. Many months after the Jihadis have been executing lightning strikes on Iraqi cites, getting inside quickly among the population where air power and artillery cannot be used against them, both the Iraqi government and their American advisers have demonstrated no improvement in their defensive tactics.
Intelligence on the attacking enemy plans seems to be zero. Mosul is in the far north of Iraq, far from the insurgents' Saudi Arabia support bases, but the Jihadis appear to have no fear of supply line threats.
On the contrary, they have learned that the defending forces will run away and leave all of their supplies available to the attackers. As a bonus in this attack, the Jihadis released over 2000 prisoners and probably armed them with government weapons, which they knew would be left behind by the retreating army.
And next, we still see the total inability of the Iraqi defense forces to even be able to spot and attack the Jihadis while crossing hundreds of miles of open desert.
And last, at this stage of the game, an exposed city like Mosul with 1.8 million people should have a National Guard of at least 25,000. And what do we have? The mayor, who bugged out, urges the civilians to stand and fight off the Jihadis, when even the professional army withdrew. This is what masquerades as leadership these days - people who are barely fit to run a shoe shine stand.
And of course we have not heard one public word from the White House, the Pentagon or Congress demanding Saudi Arabia cease and desist in their backing these attacking forces.
Might that be because the Saudis might reply with, "We will...when you do!" ... [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ]

Iraqi Army reacting instead of being proactive – More will die now.
Heavily-armed, Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants have seized the Iraqi city of Mosul, driving back government forces. Officials say the Iraqi Army’s soldiers are demoralized and are no match for the attacking militant forces.
“The city of Mosul is outside the control of the state and at the mercy of the militants,” an Interior Ministry official told AFP on Monday.
It is now the second city to fall under control of Islamist fighters since the beginning of this year. In January militants seized the city of Fallujah, displacing over 70,000 people.
On Monday night fighters from Al-Qaeda affiliated group Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) stormed provincial government headquarters armed with rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns.
The city’s governor, Atheel Nujaifi, was caught inside the building at the time of the attack, but managed to escape, while local police battled to fend off the militants. Earlier that day Nujaifi appealed to the inhabitants of Mosul to fight the invaders.

“I call on the men of Mosul to stand firm in their areas and defend them against the outsiders, and to form popular committees through the provincial council,”
    said Nujaifi in a statement.
Unnamed officials told Reuters that government fighters were demoralized and seriously outmatched by the militant forces.
Eyewitness accounts describe the scenes of chaos on the streets of Iraq’s second-largest city as people fled for their lives. A number of reports say that militants are freeing detainees from police stations, while AL RAI Chief International Correspondent Elijah J Magnier tweeted that the ISIS had freed over 2000 inmates from a “counter terrorism prison.”
