The head of the Sunni Endowment Bureau, Dr. Saad Kampash, sent a letter to the Noble Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, in order to visit Iraq.
A statement by the Sunni Endowment Bureau, which it received, stated that “the head of the diwan (met the Sheikh of Al-Azhar in Cairo) and conveyed the greetings and wishes of the Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament to Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb and the Iraqi government and people’s pride in the honorable Al-Azhar history and prestige among Muslims.
The statement stated that "Kampash delivered to the good Sheikh two written messages from Al-Kazemi and Al-Halbousi renewing the invitation to visit Iraq, the cradle of messages, the source of civilizations, the resting place of the Companions and the honorable family of the House, may God be pleased with them."
The statement indicated that "the eminence of the Grand Imam expressed his overwhelming happiness for the profound meanings of these two messages and the sincerity of the noble sentiments towards Al-Azhar. Welcome to the invitation."
He added, "At the beginning of the meeting, the file of Iraqi students on scholarships for preliminary and postgraduate studies at Al-Azhar University was discussed and the expansion of admission was discussed. The Sunni Endowment Office would guarantee the students’ expenses and meet their needs, as well as discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the Al-Azhar Sheikhdom and the Sunni Endowment Office. "
The meeting was attended by the Iraqi ambassador to Egypt Dr. Ahmed Nayef, Director General of the Department of Religious Education and Islamic Studies Rabah Al Jaafar, Director General of the Administrative and Financial Department Mahmoud Nouri Al-Hatami, and a number of personalities from Al-Azhar and the Sunni Endowment Office.
