The Department of Parties and Political Organizations of the Electoral Commission announced, on Thursday, the number of alliances and parties participating in the upcoming elections, confirming that more than 70% of the work is focused on following up and monitoring the participating parties.
According to the official agency, the media official of the Political Affairs Department, Ali Abbas Al-Mousawi, said, “The number of approved parties has reached 249 until now, while the number of parties in the registration process has reached 64, and 30 political coalitions have been approved, including 25 in the period prior to the 2018 elections. And 5 new alliances were approved during the past few days. "
He added that "the party registration controls are legal and based on the Political Party Registration Law No. 36 of 2015, so we work according to specific controls."
He pointed out that "the follow-up and evaluation of the parties is an important aspect of our circle, as more than 70% of the department's work is focused on following-up the parties in all directions, such as finance, financing, donations, arming and informing parties, and all the statements and websites issued by them, all in monitoring and evaluation." Stressing that "irregularities were recorded that were cosmetic, and we did not record financing violations." Ended 29 / A43
