    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

On Sunday, Electricity Minister Majid Mahdi Hantoush announced reaching good agreements with Iran to supply Iraq with the energy it needs in the field of electricity and gas.

Hantoush told reporters on the sidelines of his meeting with Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian, that the very good cooperation between Iran and Iraq is not hidden from anyone.

He continued: In the past years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has provided a lot of assistance to supply Iraq with the fuel needed by power plants and to export electricity to this country.

The Iraqi Minister of Electricity indicated that he discussed with the Iranian side all mechanisms and solutions for energy supply, and emphasized the continuous cooperation.

He also referred to discussing the payment of Iraqi debts to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the gas and electricity sectors, stressing the continuation of cooperation between the two countries.

The Iraqi minister said that the lack of electricity in the country is equivalent to three times the demand for imports, and the government is unable to respond to these demands and cannot keep pace with the increase in demand, so the Iraqi government must import energy to meet its needs and not to face a shortage of fuel for power plants.

The Iraqi Minister of Electricity added: This year, we were able to cover the consumption of 22 thousand megawatts of electricity in Iraq, while at the height of electricity consumption this number will increase from 22 thousand megawatts to 28 thousand megawatts.

Hantoush said: If we compare the per capita electricity consumption in Iran and Iraq, the Iraqi citizen consumes six times what the Iranian people consume, and this is due to the high temperature in Iraq.

He continued, saying: The Ministry of Electricity in Iraq conducted a comparison between the amount of energy consumption in Tehran and Baghdad with the Ministry of Energy in Iran in this regard.

According to the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Iranian companies are now operating in Iraq in all fields, including supplying and operating power stations.

He said: It may not be necessary to sign a new memorandum, explaining that the memorandum is not binding, but the agreements are binding and these agreements are under implementation between Iranian and Iraqi companies.

According to Hantoush, Iranian companies are now working in Iraqi power plants, and there is intense cooperation between the two countries in this field.

The Iraqi Minister of Electricity indicated that energy supplies from Iran are continuing continuously, and the problem that we faced was in the field of supplying fuel to power stations, explaining: Of course, during this visit we reached good agreements on this issue and payment methods.

The Iraqi Minister of Electricity arrived in Tehran yesterday to meet officials from the Iranian oil and energy ministries.
