(US Ambassador's account)

The United States announced, in a statement, that the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Greenfield, will visit Turkey tomorrow, Wednesday, to discuss with Turkish officials on the Syrian file, specifically with regard to managing the Syrian refugee crisis.

According to the statement, the ambassador will meet with a group of refugees, and will hold meetings with non-governmental organizations and United Nations agencies concerned with the asylum file, and will visit the border between Iskenderun and Idlib governorate, this week before a possible confrontation with Russia in the United Nations Security Council over extending the humanitarian aid operation through the border.

The statement explained that the visit comes at a time when the United States is working with its allies to re-authorize and expand the capacity of the United Nations to provide humanitarian aid across the border to Syria, noting that the ambassador will stress the urgent need to increase the number of border crossings, as “there is no viable alternative” to mitigate The suffering of refugees, according to the statement.
And last year, the former US permanent representative to the United Nations, Kelly Craft, visited the Bab al-Hawa crossing, accompanied by the former US special envoy to Syria James Jeffrey, and the US ambassador to Ankara, David Satterfield.
In 2014, for the first time, the UN Security Council allowed the passage of humanitarian aid across the border into Syria from four points, to be later reduced to one crossing point, from Turkey, due to the opposition of Russia and China, and their insistence on delivering humanitarian aid through Damascus.
The mandate will expire on July 10, which indicates the possibility of a confrontation within the UN Security Council, in light of the pressure exerted by Western powers, led by the United States, to renew the mandate and increase the number of crossing points, which Russia and China oppose.
A few days ago, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, Mark Lowcock, appealed to members of the Security Council not to cut the "lifeline" of Syrian refugees in northern Syria. Lowcock called for "more help across the lines" and "more help across the border."
In turn, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, accused Western countries of ignoring the importance of delivering aid through transport lines from Damascus, and said that they "do not intend to take any steps that would create problems" for the militants in Idlib province.
