Deputy Kazem Al-Shammari: Bad management, corruption and dependence on imported gas from neighboring countries are behind the collapse of the electricity system

The head of the National Coalition bloc in the Iraqi parliament, Representative Kazem Al-Shammari, confirmed that bad management and corruption are one of the reasons for the collapse of the electricity system in Iraq, stressing the need for the Prime Minister to proceed with signing the fifth oil licensing round and to rely on Iraqi gas instead of imported from neighboring countries to supply Gas power stations with fuel.
And he said in a statement today: “The National Coalition has repeatedly warned that bad management and corruption in the electricity file are the main reason for the collapse of the electricity system, especially since most power stations are gaseous, and Iraq is floating on a sea of gas, but unfortunately due to bad The administration did not invest this natural wealth in supplying the power stations with fuel, nor in exporting it.”
Al-Shammari added: “Therefore, the National Coalition brings to mind the fifth licensing round that took place in 2018, according to which six gas contracts were referred to two Chinese and Arab companies, but the illogical objections impede its progress despite the reports of the Financial Supervision Bureau and the Integrity Commission that it is a round that meets the conditions of transparency and does not It has no taint of corruption, not to mention the bad and unpatriotic role of some who prefer to import gas from neighboring countries and not invest in Iraqi gas fields, which in addition to benefiting from them in supplying gas stations with fuel, can employ more than 15,000 Iraqi workers.”
Al-Shammari continued: “Therefore, we stress the need for the Ministry of Oil, the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister personally to proceed with signing this round and to rely on Iraqi gas instead of imported gas, which costs Iraq huge sums that it is unable to pay.”
