{Local: Al Furat News} Iraq is turning to multiple sources of supplying gas to production plants and not being satisfied with one source,
A spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Al-Abadi, said in a press interview, "The production stations in the country operate with five types of fuel, including gas stations. The Iranian side to ensure the operation of a number of gas stations at their full production capacity.
He added that "the general orientation of the Ministry, the Ministry of Oil and the Ministerial Energy Council is not to rely on a single gas source to ensure the flow of gas supplies towards Iraq and the absence of fluctuation in supplies, and to proceed to supply it from other sources such as Qatar, Turkey, Algeria, Azerbaijan and others."
And he indicated that "the ministry stands at the same distance from the concerned companies specialized in supplying gas to Iraq, and there is no reservation towards any company, provided that they are commensurate with the required prices and specifications," noting that "the government's efforts are directed towards rehabilitating the Iraqi gas fields and considering that work is underway in this aspect." But it requires some time, and the Ministry of Oil now has a great effort to provide gas locally, as it succeeded in extending a Qatari pipeline to equip the Salah al-Din station and provide national gas to some stations,” adding that “this does not meet the need at this stage.” He stressed that "the Ministerial Energy Council and the Ministry of Electricity also confirm the success of the electrical interconnection line projects with the Gulf, Jordan and Egypt, and it is proceeding with the solar energy project in accordance with the decisions of the Paris Summit."
Al-Abadi confirmed that "the electricity file is under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hassan Al-Kaabi, and since the ministry is currently led by the Undersecretary for Production Affairs (acting Minister of Electricity) Adel Karim, short and medium plans have been prepared and submitted to the Cabinet. It is long-term, and its short term includes maintaining the current production volume of 20,700 megawatts and working from now until 1/6/ 2022 to add from 3 to 5 thousand megawatts by introducing a number of stations and obstetric units, in addition to implementing projects that contribute to relieving bottlenecks of power transmission lines and construction. New lines, especially that the completion rate has reached 70% with the strengthening of distribution networks.
Al-Abadi indicated that this "led to the loss of 2,600 megawatts in the system, and we seek not to harm the central and southern regions from this reduction," explaining that "there are efforts to compensate fuel from the national system in cooperation with the Ministry of Oil from fuel and national gas."
