On Thursday, the Parliamentary Economic Committee stressed the need for the government to replace the items of the ration quota with money, indicating that all purchases of these items are tainted by corruption.
Committee member Nada Jawdat told NRT Arabia (September 16, 2021) that "there are several demands for the government to replace the items of the ration with a cash allowance because of the corruption that plagues these contracts."
Jawdat added that "the government cannot control the parties because each party uses its minister as an economic front, and thus contracts are hampered and do not go smoothly."
And the member of the Economic Committee added that "the prices of foodstuffs that are distributed in the ration must be evaluated and replaced with cash," expressing "its annoyance at the lack of implementation of this law so far, despite the proposal being submitted to the Minister of Commerce, who approved it, but we did not see anything on the ground."
