The Babylon Contractors Union accused corrupt parties of blackmailing them to deliver their dues, while the local government talked about paying part of its debts amounting to trillion and 300 million dinars to the contractors.
The head of the Federation, Fadel Al-Masoudi, said: “The financial dues known as work deposits for local companies in the governorate, amounting to 200 billion dinars, have not been paid so far, despite the passage of eight years since the due date for their payment,” accusing “corrupt parties of blackmailing local companies to hand over their financial dues owed by them.” Government".
While one of the contractors in the governorate, Wissam Al-Janabi, in his interview with Al-Sabah, appealed to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to “stand against the corrupt who bargained with the contractors over the sums owed by the local government and supposed to be handed over to them years ago.”
In turn, Governor Hassan Mandeel explained: "The local government is preparing to pay part of its debts amounting to trillion and 300 million dinars by deleting the financial values of projects that were not completed and exceeded the period set for completion."
He added, "Dozens of projects have started to be dropped, most of which were liquidated according to the provisions of Resolution 347, which granted companies the power to continue without demanding money."
And Mandel attributed the reasons for stopping the implementation of projects in the province to "the delay of the Ministry of Finance in approving the province's investment budget, amounting to 125 billion dinars, according to the plan prepared by the local government of Babylon."
