Under the slogan ((Basra Reads)) and with a distinguished official, cultural and popular presence, the activities of the Basra International Book Fair were launched on Wednesday, corresponding to the twentieth of October, on the exhibition grounds in the Al-Maqal area in the province, which is organized by Al-Mada Foundation for Media, Culture and Arts in coordination and cooperation with Iraqi Exhibitions Company.
The Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Exhibitions, Hammam Ahmed Abdul-Jabbar, confirmed that the exhibition was inaugurated by the Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, accompanied by Professor Fakhri Karim, head of the Al-Mada Foundation for Media, Culture and Arts, the organization organizing the exhibition with the participation of 17 Arab and foreign countries and more than 250 Arab, foreign and local publishing houses, and it will continue until the 30th of this month.
The company’s general manager stated that “Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani delivered a speech on his behalf by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, in which he stated that he is pleased to sponsor the first Basra International Book Fair, which is a cornerstone for restoring Basra’s role as a forum for writers, poets, scholars and thinkers, and that the exhibition will become an annual message to promote The cultural role of Basra in Iraq and the Arab world.”
Emphasizing that the exhibition will witness the participation of a group of prominent writers, thinkers, artists and critics who will present a bouquet of cultural events, seminars, lectures and workshops dealing with various fields of intellectual, cultural and artistic creativity. End 29
