The border outlets refuse to create two outlets in Basra and Wasit, and explain the reasons
Shafaq News/ The Border Ports Authority decided, on Wednesday, to reject the creation of the Shihabi port in Wasit governorate, and the Al-Thaghr port in Basra.
In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the authority's media said, "The head of the authority, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, presided over the ninth meeting of the authority's council in the presence of all its members, which was held in two parts, in attendance at the authority's headquarters and through closed circuit television."
He added, "The agenda was discussed, which included many paragraphs that work to correct the reality of the border crossings' work and improve it for the better and maintain the upward pace in performance."
The authority's media pointed out that "the most prominent topics that were presented at the meeting are the recommendations of the meeting of the Federal Integrity Commission with the governors, the Office of Financial Supervision and the Border Ports Authority, where their implementation was confirmed by all ministries, governorates, the authority and departments related to the work of border crossings." It was also, according to the statement, "emphasis on the deduction of the imported quantities from the balance of the import licenses and the adoption of a mechanism to treat the quantities that are downloaded inaccurately as a result of a defect in the performance of the leave employee in the customs centers."
The statement continued, "The meeting discussed the file of goods exempted from customs and tax duties in order to ensure their access to the beneficiaries, in addition to discussing the provisions for the supply of medicines and medical supplies from the ports to the dry port and Al-Shaljiah warehouse, where it was agreed to form a committee from the Border Ports Authority and the Authority. The Customs General, the Intelligence Service, the Customs Police, and the Ministry of Health to assess the reality of work and follow up on the progress of procedures from the border crossing to the last procedure in the dry port and al-Shaljia.
A feasibility report was reviewed for the proposal to open the port of Al-Thaqar in Basra Governorate, and due to the lack of integration of the information contained in the report, the Council decided to re-form another committee that is at the level of responsibility and professionally competent to resolve the issue of the feasibility of opening the port or not.
As for the proposal to open the Shihabi port in Wasit governorate, it came as the last topic on the agenda, and after reviewing the report of the competent committee that was sent to study the feasibility and validity of the proposed port site and based on previous reports, the council decided that the proposed land site was not valid for the creation of the border port.
