One of them is covered by its procedures.. Accountability and justice complete the scrutiny of the names of candidates for the presidency
Shafaq News/ Today, Monday, the Accountability and Justice Commission completed the audit of the names of candidates for the presidency.
The media department of the commission said in a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency, "The commission has completed the audit of the names of candidates for the presidency in accordance with its law No. 10 of 2008, especially Article 6 and its details."
And he pointed out, "The number of candidates for the presidency of the Republic reached 26, one of whom is covered by the accountability and justice procedures," stressing that "the results have been officially handed over to the Presidency of Parliament."
The Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, announced, earlier, the opening of the nomination for the post of President of the Republic for 15 days, where the voting session for the candidates will take place on the last day.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party's candidate, Hoshyar Zebari, is competing with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) candidate Barham Salih for the position of President of the Republic.
According to the political custom followed throughout the previous sessions, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has held the position of President of the Republic since the overthrow of the previous regime in 2003.
But in terms of numbers, the fact that the Kurdistan Democratic Party won 31 parliamentary seats in the recent legislative elections, compared to only 17 seats for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, may reverse the equation this time.
