, Thursday, The Ministry of Agriculture has identified the main files to be discussed at the 36th Regional Conference for the Near East and North Africa, which will be held in Baghdad under the auspices of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
The ministry's spokesman, Hamid Al-Nayef, said in a statement, "The 36th Regional Conference for the Near East and North Africa will be held in cooperation with the FAO, one of the United Nations organizations, with the participation of thirty countries," noting that "the conference will be held under the auspices of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and the supervision of the Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji. This is for the period from 7-8 of the current month and for two days.
He explained, "The convening of this conference came as a result of the efforts made by the Minister of Agriculture in the past months by inviting him to hold this important conference in Baghdad and in these circumstances, which gives great implications for Iraq, enhancing its Arab and international status, as well as its security stability, in addition to support for the agricultural sector in Iraq through the exchange and acquisition of global experiences in various agricultural, productive and industrial fields.
He pointed out that "the Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, Abdul Hakim Rajab, arrived in Baghdad to coordinate with the concerned authorities regarding the organization of the ministerial session of the thirty-sixth session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Regional Conference for the East. The 36th meeting to be held this year, under the title “Recovery and Restart: Innovation for Better, Greener, and Resilient Agri-food Systems to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”
He added, “Iraq will host the 36th session of the conference, which was held on Two phases, the first phase was devoted to the meeting of the advanced owners of the Ministry of Agriculture, which was held hypothetically during January 2022, while the second phase in this conference will be completed through the ministerial session and with actual attendance, which will be held during the period from 7-8 February 2022.
And he stated, "This conference will bring together ministers of agriculture and senior officials from member states and more than thirty countries to discuss challenges and regional priorities related to food security and the sustainability of agricultural development in the Near East and North Africa region, in a way that ensures the effectiveness of the organization's influence in the region, and helps define priorities for its work over the years." coming.”
Al-Nayef stressed that "these priorities will be identified through participation in panel discussions with all member states to determine best practices for transforming food systems and achieving sustainable development goals."
And he continued, "The conference will discuss major files that require stopping, namely the water and food file, and the obstacles facing agriculture in Iraq, especially the water file, as Iraq is now exposed to a decrease in water revenues from neighboring countries in conjunction with the lack of rain and global warming, and it is hoped that it will discuss This file is on the sidelines of the conference, in the presence of the Turkish and Iranian sides.
