Eight years later, the file of the fall of Mosul is still lying on the shelves without announcing any real results about those involved in this setback. Nineveh MPs demanded the reopening of the investigation file, stressing that the governorate’s situation is confusing and the chaos kept the investigation file out of sight.
Mansour Al-Maraid, a representative from Nineveh Governorate, said in an interview with Al-Mada that "the political chaos in the country made the file of the fall of Mosul neglected," noting that "Nineveh's politicians are obligated to follow up on this file and not remain silent about it, but with the blocs controlling us, it has become The sound is inaudible.”
He pointed out, "At the present time, there is no time to raise this file, but in the coming days it is possible that the circumstance will allow and refer everyone who was the cause of the case to the judiciary to take his punishment."
And Al-Maraid stated, "The situation of Nineveh Governorate today is confusing, and things need immediate short-term and long-term plans, and all work is reactions, whims and moods."
In turn, the director of the office of the former Nineveh governor, Khaled al-Dabouni, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), that "the investigations of the fall of Mosul did not reach any specific result, and the judiciary did not interfere in the case."
Al-Dabouni confirmed, “Parliament completed the investigation report into the fall of Mosul, and accused a group of political officials and military leaders, but only Katham remained without deciding whether to convict or acquit the accused.”
And he pointed out, "The file of the fall of Mosul will remain on the shelf as long as those covered by the investigation are still in power and influential in the arena."
Regarding the reality of the governorate today, Al-Dabouni said, “The governorate is now in a reality that is not much different from previous years, and there are still actors who do not want Mosul to rise again, and prevent any urban progress in it.”
He pointed out that "the devastation in the province is still widespread, due to the will of some parties that put pressure on investment agencies and private and even foreign companies in order to profit from them."
Al-Dabouni added, "Strategic reconstruction projects are still underway, such as hospitals, the airport, and neglected trains, while the focus is on small projects such as paving streets and establishing parks and sidewalks."
He added that "Mosul lacks a local political decision," noting that "the politicians are affiliated with parties from outside the province, and therefore Mosul comes late in the priorities of grants and government support."
Al-Dabouni described the reality of the citizen’s condition, pointing out that he is “a broken willed person, afraid of the Daashnah charge and afraid of the return of ISIS.”
For his part, the representative of Nineveh Governorate, Mahma Khalil, spoke to Al-Mada, saying, "The eighth anniversary of the fall of Nineveh Governorate at the hands of ISIS gangs is passing, and the city is still bleeding wounds due to the loss of lives and property and the delay in reconstruction and sustainable security."
Khalil demanded, "to reopen the investigation file regarding the fall of Mosul and find out what were the reasons that led to that and why the file was closed and to know the reasons for not announcing the results previously by the relevant committees."
