    Baghdad today - Diyala
Today, Monday (May 13, 2024), Aws al-Mahdawi, a member of the Diyala Provincial Council from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party, expressed the Kurds’ rejection of introducing the principle of quotas in security positions in Diyala according to what is known as the (1+1) principle.
In an interview with "Baghdad Today", in his capacity as the representative of the Kurds, which "is the second largest nationality in the Diyala Provincial Council," Al-Mahdawi confirmed his refusal for "political quotas to reach the corridors of the security services, regardless of the reasons and motives," justifying this with the desire for "the security services to remain independent." Away from any political debates.”
He added, "There are leaks through social media platforms about pressure exerted by some parties to adopt the principle of (1+1) in the security system, that is, the distribution of security positions among the main components," pointing out that "the truth has not raised such topics in any discussions before him, and he hopes That it is not true."
Al-Mahdawi stressed “believing in the principle that components’ participation in security decisions should be through experience and competence and not through quotas whose consequences are known to everyone  .”
He pointed out that "rejecting the quotas of security positions is a principle that the Kurds in Diyala will not back down from, as they are sensitive positions that must be kept away from any political influences that could be exploited for purposes that ultimately lead to problems that we do not need."
Diyala Governorate is essentially witnessing disagreements and attempts to impose wills on a sectarian and political basis regarding the identity of the governor of Diyala, which still has no local government despite more than 4 months having passed since the local elections were held.
