    Baghdad today - Kirkuk
Today, Monday (May 13, 2024), the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Hidayat Taher, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to intervene to resolve the land dispute in the areas of Balkana and the outskirts of Dibs in Kirkuk Governorate .
Taher said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the Prime Minister, as responsible for all cities in Iraq, is required today to defend the rights of all components, especially those who are exposed to injustice.”
He added, "The Kurdish lands in the Balkana areas were confiscated after the events of October 2017. They are Kurdish lands, and the farmers were displaced during the Arabization processes practiced by Saddam Hussein's regime."
Taher pointed out that "the Sudanese must defuse the crisis, form an investigative committee, and return the lands to their owners, after a number of farmers from Arab tribes were brought and settled in the region."
The Balkana areas are witnessing protests and sit-ins by Arab tribes, objecting to Kurdish farmers coming to harvest wheat in the agricultural areas there, amid an ongoing conflict over lands between the Kurds and Arabs.
