Baghdad Trade: We mitigated the negative effects of high food prices globally
Chamber head Firas Al-Hamdani said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, "The decision to raise customs and taxes on imported foodstuffs was a positive factor that contributed to alleviating the negative effects on the rise in food prices globally."
He added, "Lifting the ban on importing foodstuffs, such as meat, chicken, and others, were determinants and things that restrict the economy and commercial work." Therefore, the food crisis will have weak effects on Iraq."
The Council of Ministers announced Resolution 72 of 2022, which includes zeroing customs duties for basic foodstuffs, consumer goods and building materials, in order to support the segment of citizens and the people's food, which affects their daily lives to meet the challenges of high prices.
Iraq imports a lot of food, agricultural and animal materials from abroad to meet the local need, while some of them are prohibited when sufficiency is achieved.
