Chamber President Firas Al-Hamdani said that "the decision to raise customs and taxes on imported foodstuffs was a positive factor that contributed to alleviating the negative effects on the rise in food prices globally."
He continued, "Lifting the ban, ban on importing foodstuffs such as meat, chicken, and others, were determinants and things that restrict the economy and commercial work," noting that "opening imports will lead to the development of commercial work and the market becomes competitive, and therefore there will be stability in prices and meet the needs of citizens in a way that does not raise prices in a way. Therefore, the food crisis will have weak effects on Iraq.”
The Council of Ministers announced Resolution 72 of 2022, which includes zeroing customs duties for basic foodstuffs, consumer goods and building materials, in order to support the segment of citizens and the people's food, which affects their daily lives to meet the challenges of high prices.
