    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture indicated the difficulties facing the process of exporting local products to the countries of the region and the world and their entry into competition in their markets, while revealing the existence of serious efforts to help the private sector produce crops capable of competing externally.
The technical representative of the ministry, Mithaq Abdul-Hussein Al-Khafaji, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency and followed by "Economy News", that "the opening of the door for export every year is the result of an abundance of some crops in excess of the local need, especially the tomato and potato crop, as well as dates."
Al-Khafaji added, "After 2003, the private sector became the leader in business in most sectors globally, and there are companies that are professional in the process of preparing crops that meet the needs of importing countries," noting that "
He pointed out that "the countries that import goods set conditions that the producing countries are obliged to implement, and the problem that Iraq faces is that it suffers from the lack of professional companies that meet the conditions of importers," noting that "the conditions imposed on importers relate to packaging methods, as well as the cultivation of crops in different ways. Organic, free from the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
He continued: "The process of exporting products in the world has become very organized. It is not permissible for mere abundance of production to take place in the export process, and therefore most of Iraq's crops suffer from their inability to compete greatly due to the lack of professional companies in the process of marketing for export purposes."
And he noted, "There are attempts to export, especially Iraqi dates," pointing out that "there are serious efforts to help the private sector develop its performance and produce crops that are able to compete and meet the requirements of importers."
He pointed out that "the Ministry of Agriculture is studying the process of developing and fumigating dates, in addition to leaving the use of traditional methods and replacing them with modern ones, such as using radiation in the process of fumigating dates, thus raising their nutritional value."
