Parliament is heading to re-form the committees in proportion to the changes taking place and the entry of new representatives to replace the members of the Sadrist bloc who resigned earlier. .
The head of the State of Law bloc, Atwan al-Atwani, said that "the meeting of Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi with his second deputy, Shakhwan Abdullah, with heads of parliamentary blocs yesterday, came on the occasion of the start of the second legislative term."
Al-Atwani added, "The attendees discussed the tasks and challenges of the next stage in Parliament, at the legislative and oversight levels, enacting laws of paramount importance that the citizen needs, and discussing all projects received from the government in order to re-read them."
He pointed out that "the discussions touched on restructuring the committees in line with the new electoral weights that came after the withdrawal of the Sadrist bloc and the resignation of its members."
Al-Atwani went on to say, "The agreement was made that we end the situation that occurred in the previous legislative term, which is the repetition of the membership of deputies in more than one committee and the adoption of the deputy being a member of only one committee."
For his part, MP Thaer Mokheifa stated, "The deputies will remain in their committees, and there will be only a filling for the vacant seats left by the resigned deputies."
He continued, “The parliament had previously voted on the membership of the committees under a special session for this procedure, and therefore there will be no review of the membership of those who voted.” He pointed out, "The committees are still headed by the eldest member, with opinions that have begun to be put forward in order to nominate permanent presidencies, and they are subject to quotas."
He indicated that “the presidencies of the permanent committees will be after naming the ministries, because they are linked to each other, as the committee will be granted to another entity that differs from the entity that will obtain the ministry concerned with the same sector.”
In addition, Representative Walid Al-Sahlani said that "the internal system of the House of Representatives governs the committees, their tasks, number and terms of reference."
Al-Sahlani continued, "The current session witnessed some changes to the structure of the committees by splitting them, especially those that carry a lot of weight." He stressed that "the coordination framework will get the most number of committees, as it is the largest bloc within Parliament."
Al-Sahlani concluded, “The House of Representatives is engaged in carrying out its legislative tasks, even if the permanent presidencies of the committees have not been elected, since their work is ongoing and they can pass laws according to what is stipulated in the constitution.”
The blocs had agreed yesterday to resume the work of the House of Representatives after a month of the legislative recess, provided that work will be 8 sessions per month.
