Shafaq News/ The Parliamentary Energy Committee clarified, on Thursday, the reason for the recent decline in the hours of supplying electricity, while proposing solutions to address this crisis in the country.
The head of the committee, Khaled al-Samarrai, told Shafaq News Agency, "The committee hosted in the previous period the Minister of Electricity and the advanced cadre of the ministry and distribution managers regarding the supply of electrical energy during the summer, and they explained that the high temperatures affected the production and processing hours."
He added, "The Iranian side launched batches of gas, which contributed to the production reaching the highest load since the establishment of the Ministry of Electricity, reaching 23,000 megawatts."
and among the samurai; That "the electricity crisis needs a radical solution through the installation of smart meters and electrical systems in all Iraqi provinces and referring the distribution sector to semi-investment, because the issue of collection is the best way to rationalize the use of electrical energy."
He continued, "There are violators of the electrical system, and these constitute a very large number that cannot be controlled, and collection must be reconsidered to rationalize the consumption of electrical energy."
And the head of the Parliamentary Energy Committee said, "The second aspect of solving the electricity crisis is that Iraq needs large thermal plants that are not affected by gas and temperatures, and this needs decisive decisions either to go towards investment or the Council of Ministers to finance projects."
He explained that "Iraq owns a number of thermal stations in Wasit and Salah al-Din, in addition to the North and Yusufiya station, but they are suspended projects, and those stations must be re-worked to control production and supply electricity."
Regarding gas stations, al-Samarrai pointed out that “Iranian gas is expensive and unreliable over the years, and the Ministry of Oil must invest in gas combustion,” noting that “Iraq owns gas fields in a number of provinces and the Kurdistan Region, and that Erbil uses local gas in Electricity production.
Iraq has been suffering for years from a crisis in the production of electric power, but it has worsened in recent years, especially during the summer.
