Washington is deliberately heating up the front against the auxiliary forces of the Syrian army, after its bases in Al-Tanf and Al-Omar were repeatedly bombed. However, the response of those forces was also not late, as they targeted American bases again, amid expectations that these attacks would escalate in the future. An escalation that appears to aim at doubling the pressure on the Americans with the aim of getting them to leave Syria, in light of the “Astana trio” agreeing on this goal.
Not a few hours passed after the American aircraft attacked the points of the forces supporting the Syrian army in the Ayyash area in Deir ez-Zor, until these fighting groups responded by targeting the two bases of the “International Coalition” in the Koniko and al-Omar fields in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which host American, British and French soldiers. As a result, there were casualties among the coalition forces. In parallel, hostile helicopters re-targeted the areas under the control of the Syrian army in Al-Mayadin and Deir ez-Zor, without any information on casualties. And field sources told Al-Akhbar that “the popular resistance factions targeted the Al-Omar field with seven rockets, all of which fell inside the field, in addition to targeting the Koniko field with three missiles on Wednesday night, and two on Thursday morning,” wounding five soldiers from the “Coalition,” including Three Americans and two other nationalities, and causing significant material damage at the site.
For its part, the US Central Command acknowledged, in a statement, that its bases had been bombed, pointing out that "several missiles fell within the vicinity of the mission support base in Konico...A short time later, rockets landed near the mission support site in the green village (Al-Omar field)." The statement pointed out that "the US forces responded to missile attacks on two sites in Syria, and destroyed three cars and equipment used to launch missiles," referring to the killing of three militants suspected of being backed by Iran. Subsequently, the Pentagon announced that the American forces in Syria and Iraq were on alert, indicating the possibility of an escalation of attacks against them in these two countries. Perhaps what reinforces Washington’s fears in this context is that the fighting groups that used to target the vicinity of the American bases with mortars and rockets, without causing significant material damage to the bases themselves, deliberately – this time – dropped all the missiles on the two bases headquarters, with the aim of creating The greatest possible damage to them, and emphasizing that the following targets will directly hit those sites, in order to double the military pressure on the Americans. Perhaps the US announcement of the state of alert reflects the arrival of intelligence information about the possibility of a military escalation against the “coalition” bases in both Syria and Iraq, in light of the Syrian-Russian-Turkish-Iranian consensus on the need for the Americans to leave Syria.
The foregoing intersects with the expectations of well-informed field sources who confirmed to Al-Akhbar that “the ability of the popular resistance to inflict casualties on the ranks of the Americans represents the beginning of a comprehensive escalation against the illegal American presence in Syria,” and it is likely that “the coming days will witness more attacks.” Missile, and even land, bases and movements of the coalition in Deir ez-Zor, Hasaka and Al-Tanf.” The sources considered that “the use of mobile missile launchers by the resistance fighters will make it difficult to pursue and liquidate them.” It seems that the Russian-Iranian moves to urge a rapprochement between Damascus and Ankara also include taking measures against the American presence, with the aim of forcing the United States to withdraw from the areas it occupies. For these efforts to succeed, Washington needs to lift its hand from the Kurds, which will only happen in the event of a complete withdrawal from the region, which will make the possibility of resolving the SDF file more smooth. It is expected that the field escalation against the Americans in Deir ez-Zor and Hasaka will be paralleled by an increase in the number of Russian raids on Al-Tanf and targeting the headquarters of the Washington-backed Maghawir Al-Thawra Army, which in turn will constitute an additional pressure factor on the Americans. This comes at a time when Russian media reported that "terrorist movements were monitored on pickup trucks carrying mortars, which targeted a joint Syrian-Russian patrol, which led to the death of a Syrian soldier and the breakdown of a Russian armored vehicle." According to the sources, "as a result of the American support for terrorists in the Al-Tanf area, their terrorist activity has recently increased, and they have targeted, with a UAV, points of the Syrian army in the Badia, which led to the injury of two soldiers." This comes at a time when Russian media reported that "terrorist movements were monitored on pickup trucks carrying mortars, which targeted a joint Syrian-Russian patrol, which led to the death of a Syrian soldier and the breakdown of a Russian armored vehicle."
