On Sunday, the artillery of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards bombed a number of border areas adjacent to the Erbil Governorate in the Kurdistan Region, in the second attack in less than 24 hours.
The director of Sidekan district, Ihsan Chalabi, said in a statement to Kurdistan 24, that the artillery shelling targeted the slopes of the Barbizin and Saqr mountains and the Horni pastures in the town of Bradost in Erbil governorate.
Drones were seen hovering over the area.
The bombing took place hours after a speech by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi in New York, in which he called on neighboring countries not to use his country's territory as a "pretext" to combat terrorism.
The Revolutionary Guards say that its bombing targets the headquarters of the Iranian Kurdish opposition, which is based in the border areas as a starting point for "fueling" the unrest that erupted after the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, while she was detained by the morality police, which sparked a wave of angry demonstrations.
According to Iranian official statistics, 35 people have been killed in the week-long demonstrations, with the protests spreading to most of the country's 31 provinces.
In a statement, the Revolutionary Guards previously called on the citizens of the Kurdistan Region to stay away from the "bases" of the armed groups, pledging to continue bombing them.
