The French philosopher and writer Bernard-Henri Levy said today, Saturday, that the Kurdistan Region is capable of solving the energy problems in Europe, stressing that the best answer to the threats to the region is national unity.
Levy's speech came during his participation in the conference on the Kurdish question in the Middle East, which was organized in Erbil and with the participation of a number of foreign political officials and academics.
"The Kurdistan government is able to remind the Europeans that the solution to the energy problem is here and not elsewhere," Bernard Levy said.
He added, "European countries must have a clear strategy to protect the Kurdistan Region, not a one-year agreement, or providing sums of money to secure the salaries of the Peshmerga."
He stressed that "the Kurdistan Region and Iraq are able to resolve their differences and confront the existing tactical and fundamental problems, by asking their allies to mediate between them."
He explained that "the Kurdistan Region has become a beautiful model of political pluralism, freedom, respect for human rights and a culture of coexistence between religions," stressing that "the countries of the region fear the spread of this model."
He pointed out that "the best response to the threats facing the Kurdistan Region is national unity," stressing that "the Kurds paid a heavy price for the absence of unity in 2017."
At the end of his speech, Bernard Levy said, addressing the people of Kurdistan, "show your loyalty to your land," stressing that "the Kurdish people have made great sacrifices in history to rise and continue," noting that "they are not pessimistic and have deep belief in a better future for Kurdistan."
It is noteworthy that in 2014, the French philosopher and writer Bernard-Henri Levy directed a film about the courage of the Peshmerga, which was shown at the United Nations and the US Congress and won the Peace Prize in Berlin.
