The Acting Minister of Electricity, Adel Karim, confirmed that the length of the electrical connection line with Saudi Arabia is 300 km, noting that "the electrical connection with the Gulf countries will not solve 5% of Iraq's energy problems."
Karim told the Kurdish media network, Rudaw, that "Iraq needs at the current stage between 14-15,000 additional megawatts of electric power."
Regarding the electrical interconnection project, he pointed out that "in the first phase, we will obtain 500 megawatts through two power transmission lines from Saudi Arabia, and the line's length is 300 kilometers."
He continued, "We have been working for more than 4 years on the electrical interconnection project with Saudi Arabia," stressing that "Iraq wants to connect the electricity network with the electricity networks of countries in the region.
