The head of the Investment Authority denies submitting her resignation..a study to reconsider the taxes of buying and selling land in Baghdad

The Municipality of Baghdad confirmed, yesterday, Saturday, that it will prepare a study of the process of paying taxes for the sale and purchase of land, and this comes at a time when the National Investment Authority denied, today, Saturday, that its president, Suha Al-Najjar, submitted her resignation and travel outside Iraq.
The secretariat’s spokesman, Muhammad Al-Rubaie, said in a statement published by the official news agency and followed by (Al-Mada), that “the Baghdad Municipality will work during the next stage to re-examine the process of paying fees and taxes for houses and lands upon sale.”
He added, "Most of the citizens submitted verbal complaints, through the media, social media, and others, about the lack of justice in the matter of tax fees for plots of 200 meters or more."
He added, "These taxes are not commensurate with the economic level the country is going through," noting that "the secretariat will form a committee specialized in this matter to re-examine the current taxes."
In a related context, the Investment Authority stated, in a statement received by (Al-Mada), that “the commission denies the news circulated by a number of media sites about the submission of the head of the National Investment Commission, Suha Al-Najjar, her resignation and her travels outside Iraq.” And she stressed that "Al-Najjar is continuing her work and is present in Iraq, and that these news are false, and the media must investigate accuracy and credibility in transmitting the information, and that she is in the process of taking legal measures against those who published the news."
This comes one day after the media office of Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani announced that he had received Al-Najjar.
The statement added, "Al-Sudani was briefed on the progress of investment in Iraq, a review of the most important obstacles facing his work, and the mechanisms adopted to confront the state of reluctance in some large projects."
He pointed out that "the two parties discussed the laws and instructions in force in this field and ways to develop them, in order to improve the reality of the investment sector, which is one of the most important economic sectors in Iraq."
It is noteworthy that the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, directed earlier the formation of a fact-finding committee on the mechanism of work of the Investment Authority.
The media office of the First Deputy said in a statement about two weeks ago, "Al-Mandalawi chaired an expanded meeting of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, during which it hosted the President of the National Investment Authority, Suha Al-Najjar."
The statement continued, "Al-Mandlawi directed the formation of a parliamentary fact-finding committee from the two committees (integrity, investment and development) against the authority, to determine the mechanism for granting it licenses, the investing companies, the beneficiary parties, the percentages of achievement achieved, and the steps taken against those who were granted leave and did not invest since Al-Najjar received their responsibility until today. The report will be submitted next week and read in the parliament session to take a decision on the results.
The statement quoted Al-Mandalawi as saying, "The corruption in the Investment Authority is unparalleled, and the country's interest requires us to cut off the road for investments to reach the hands of the corrupt, as it will not be reflected in the improvement of the life of the poor citizen."
