Today, Thursday, January 12, 2023, His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, attended the match of our Iraqi national team with its brother, the Yemeni national team, which was held within the Gulf Cup Football Championship in Basra Governorate.
Upon his arrival at Basra Airport, the President was received by the Governor, Mr. Asaad Al-Eidani.
President Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid appreciated the great efforts made by government agencies and the province of Basra in all its departments, and their success in organizing the first tournament hosted by Iraq after more than forty years.
Mr. President also praised the generosity and hospitality of the people of Basra to the participating delegations and the visiting Gulf audience to the province, stressing that we are proud of that generosity, which is not strange for the good people of Basra, expressing his wishes for prosperity and development for Basra and its people, and for the championship to be a good omen for it and for all of Iraq to strengthen its relations and consolidate its security and stability. .
His Excellency congratulated the national team and our Iraqi people on the occasion of the victory over the brotherly team of Yemen and its qualification first in its group to the semi-finals of the tournament, wishing continued success and success for the national team and the rest of the teams of the brotherly countries participating in the tournament, stressing the importance of sport presenting an example of harmony, good coexistence and respect for the other.
