The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, stressed today, Monday, that the sovereignty of the country cannot be overstepped, while noting that "it is not possible to bet more on the people's patience with promises."
In a speech during the memorial ceremony marking the fifth anniversary of the death of President Jalal Talabani, which was followed by Mawazine News, Saleh said, "Mam Jalal devoted his life to serving his country and people, leaving a living legacy that we are all proud of, and immortal fingerprints in the march of the Kurdish and Iraqi struggle for freedom and democracy, putting His life is at stake, indifferent to the worst dangers, storms and tribulations.
He added, "Our country is going through an exceptional, delicate circumstance that is not without dangers, and that we all have a historical, national and moral responsibility to unite the national ranks to get out of the current crisis, and to start building a capable and effective state that protects the interests of the country, enhances its sovereignty and guarantees the safety of its citizens."
Saleh continued, "We succeeded in overcoming many problems and we were able to move the country from an address of conflict to an address for countries and peoples of the region to converge on security, peace, stability and economic development. There are many common challenges facing the countries of the region, and they will not be answered except through joint cooperation." Ended 29/R77
