The Parliamentary Finance Committee began discussing the draft law on social security and retirement for workers and the private sector, in a preliminary step to advance the bill and pass it during the current parliamentary session.
The law is of great importance, as it serves as a guarantee for the rights of workers in the private sector and their equality with the government sector, according to the parliamentary finances.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the Finance Committee held a meeting to discuss the Social Security and Retirement Law for Workers, and a number of issues of concern.
According to a statement issued by the Media Department of the House of Representatives received by (Al-Mada), that “the committee completed reading a number of paragraphs of the Social Security Law in order to confirm the notes contained therein in order to formulate and mature them, in coordination with the Parliamentary Work Committee and organize the work mechanism in the private sector, and include social security, And the end of service, and the advances of the insured participants, and workers’ insurance.
A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mueen Al-Kazemi, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), that “our committee held its first session after completing the members of the committee and electing its chairman and two deputies,” adding that “the committee discussed the draft law on social security and retirement for workers and the private sector.”
A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee added, “The law is considered the beginning of the development of the private sector, and the most important characteristic of it is setting a pension for the private sector.”
Al-Kazemi indicated, "The law is a social insurance for the citizen, and there will be a tendency for unemployed youth and graduates to work within the private sector in order to avoid sluggishness in the government sector." He explained, "The draft law still needs to be reviewed by the Finance Committee, and discussed with the rest of the concerned committees, led by the Labor Committee and civil society organizations."
Al-Kazemi pointed out, "The draft law on social security and retirement for workers needs about a month, after which it will be included in the agenda of the parliament session."
And he went on to say, “If the arrival of the draft social security and retirement law for workers coincides with the arrival of the 2023 draft budget, the latter will be taken care of due to the country’s urgent need for it.”
Al-Kazemi concluded, "There is parliamentary insistence on passing the Social Security Law during the current session," noting that "the draft law will be one of the achievements of the fifth session of Parliament."
In turn, the other member of the committee, Jamal Cougar, says, in an interview with (Al-Mada), that “members of the Parliamentary Finance Committee discussed the Social Security and Retirement Law for workers and the private sector in a preliminary manner.”
He added, "The Social Security and Retirement Law for workers and the private sector is of great importance from an economic point of view, and it also aims to activate and greatly enhance the work of the private sector to be parallel to the government sector."
Cougar explained, “The draft law is very important, but it has been suspended from previous parliamentary sessions,” noting that “the Finance Committee will work to legislate the Social Security and Retirement Law for workers and the private sector during the next stage of the current session.”
He continued, "The law still needs to be well studied and the observations and proposals of parliamentarians and specialized parliamentary committees, in addition to civil society organizations, taken into consideration."
