Baghdad / Obelisk: Preemptive readings indicate that the amendment of the provincial elections law may herald the explosion of the political situation in Iraq, because it allows the large parties in Iraq to dominate power at the expense of independents, in addition to the fact that the Sadrist movement is against amending the election law.
Independent deputies expressed their strong objection to the amendment, while the representative of the al-Hikma Movement, Ali al-Bandawi, said that Parliament had completed the first reading of the draft provincial elections law, but the proposal did not address the electoral system, whether it was on the Saint Legau method or otherwise.

The official spokesman for the National Consciousness Movement and a member of its political bureau, Hamed Al-Sayed, said that the movement's rejection of St. Lego and the single constituency stems from our goal of removing the tempter by peaceful and constitutional means, noting that the multiple constituencies reduce the chances of winning the leaders and provide fair competition between the new and old forces.
Representative Hassan Qassem Al-Khafaji talks about the insistence of the large parties and their active leaders to re-establish the system (Saint Lego) as nothing but contempt for the sacrifices and blood of the martyrs that were spilled in October. As he put it, emphasizing: We categorically reject this unjust law and call on rational people to unite and work to abort it and not allow it to be revived again.
Iraq is conducting, based on the constitution, two elections, one for Parliament and another for the formation of provincial councils responsible for local governments.
Muhammad al-Jubouri, who is interested in political affairs, says that the provincial council elections are governed by the Saint-Lego law. It means the return of Iraq to square one and the loss of the great sacrifices in October 2019.

Political analyst and writer Ali Al-Baydar talks about passing the electoral law for the provincial councils in its current form (St. Lego 1.7 or 1.9), in addition to considering the province as one electoral district, which represents the final nail in the coffin of the Sadrist movement (politically), and this is what provokes it and makes it return to the protest scene as a means He refused about what is happening to exclude him and by law this time.
The last parliamentary elections the country witnessed was in 2021, while the last provincial elections were held in 2013.
The academic, Muhannad Al-Janabi, considered that the advocates of returning to the Saint-Lego system justify their demands to amend the election law by saying that the last law “lost the real representation of voters,” ignoring that the House of Representatives in its five sessions did not witness real representation due to lack of confidence in the political process, wondering: Is the Saint-Lego system considered constitutionally??
The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani, included the provincial council elections in his government program, which are expected to be held in October of this year.
Observer of Iraqi affairs, Sami Al-Faisal, calls for wide participation in the campaign to reject the election law prepared by the ruling parties since 2003, so that the candidate continues to win votes for the large parties .
