    Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Construction and Housing in the Kurdistan Region held a workshop on protecting the region from earthquakes, after the seismic repercussions that hit the region.
    A statement of the ministry, received by (Baghdad Today), stated that it held a workshop in the presence of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, and the American Concrete Institute, to discuss ways to protect the Kurdistan region from the repercussions of earthquakes that hit the region

    . And infrastructure and economic projects, and proposing procedures and mechanisms to find solutions, indicating that one of the objectives of the workshop is to formulate guidelines and appropriate plans for the implementation of future projects for a built and developed engineering-wise Kurdistan.

    Also, during the workshop, according to the statement, an attempt is made to define the code and standards appropriate to the nature and location of the Kurdistan region, which is another goal of the workshop.
    For his part, the Minister of Construction and Housing in the Kurdistan Region, Dana Abdul Karim, said during the workshop that new mechanisms will be adopted to establish projects after the devastating earthquake that occurred in Turkey and Syria, killing and injuring tens of thousands of people.
    Abdul Karim added that the government, through the Ministry of Construction and the concerned authorities, will conduct an assessment of the nature of the establishment of projects in the region against the backdrop of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria weeks ago, adding: We will conduct an assessment of the buildings in the region.
    The minister pointed out that the Kurdistan region, according to the map of the earthquake line in Iraq, which consists of six regions, fortunately the region is located within the region of medium risk.
    He continued by saying that even if a 5-magnitude earthquake occurred on the Richter scale, it would not result in serious damage, provided that the projects are implemented in accordance with previously issued mechanisms and instructions.
    And the minister said: But if the degree rises and reaches 6 or 7, then the damage will definitely be many times greater.
