[size=45]The government is trying to curb poverty in Iraq by launching service programs that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani had previously emphasized in his government program since assuming the duties of prime minister.[/size]
[size=45]Yesterday, Monday, the Ministry of Labor announced the opening of applications for the electronic form for a number of categories covered by the Social Protection Authority Law.[/size]
[size=45]The head of the Social Protection Authority at the Ministry of Labor, Ahmed Khalaf, says, “The categories included in applying for the form are: (orphan, widow, divorced woman, inmate’s family, wife of the missing, abandoned, single, and girl).”[/size]
[size=45]And he stated, "More than 20,000 people, whether orphans, widows, or divorced women, submitted, during the first six hours of the electronic form, a number of categories covered by the Social Protection Authority Law." Khalaf added, "The application link witnessed great momentum, as it comes as a continuation of the government program adopted by Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani."[/size]
[size=45]The head of the Social Protection Authority indicated, "The Minister of Labor, Ahmed al-Asadi, is taking deliberate steps to complement the social research campaign that was launched last month."[/size]
[size=45]He pointed out, "There are many families who fall within the vulnerable classes who did not get an opportunity for social assistance, and the application link is an opportunity for them," noting that "this step comes within the framework of the poverty alleviation program in Iraq." Khalaf explained, "The application link is open 24 hours a day, and no time limit has been set for closing the application." And the head of the Social Protection Authority went on to say: “When a sufficient number is provided, the data is interrupted and social research in the field begins. As for the release of social protection benefits and their receipt of the amounts, it depends on the approval of the budget.”[/size]
[size=45]He continued, "Within two months, legal measures were taken against 27,500 employees and contract holders, as they receive social assistance salaries."[/size]
[size=45]Khalaf noted that “the Minister of Labor announced the inclusion of 2,000 orphans with social assistance, after submitting them on the 15th of the current month, and they will be handed the (Ki-Card) tomorrow, Thursday, and the cash amounts at the beginning of next month,” explaining that “these amounts are not part of the budget, but are compensatory.” About the salaries of these employees and the owners of the contracts that have been suspended. In turn, Sana al-Moussawi, the advisor to the Prime Minister for Social Protection Affairs, says, "The electronic window, which was opened by the Ministry of Labor and with the support of the Prime Minister, aims to help the poor and disadvantaged classes." Al-Moussawi added, “The Ministry of Labor did not specify a time to close the application,” stressing the need to “end the state of poverty in the country, in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning.”[/size]
[size=45]And the advisor to the Prime Minister for Social Protection Affairs pointed out, “The financial sources that will be allocated for social assistance are diverse, part of which is from the Social Protection Fund, as well as financial allocations within the 2023 budget.” In addition, the spokesman for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Najm Al-Aqabi, details the mechanism by which the allocations will be distributed to the included families, saying, “The law specified from one to 4 members of the family. As for the breadwinner, 125,000 dinars per month, for four people, 275,000 dinars per month, i.e. 50,000 dinars is the difference between a man and a woman, for a woman’s situation is different from that of a man.[/size]
[size=45]He continued, "We have coordination with the Kurdistan Region at the level of displaced families and families in the region, and there is cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Labor in the Kurdistan Region."[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that the poverty rate in Iraq amounts to 21%, according to the latest survey conducted by the Ministry of Planning, and Muthanna tops the list of the poorest governorates with a rate of 52%, followed by Diwaniyah, Dhi Qar and Maysan, with rates ranging from 45% to 48%, then Nineveh with an estimated rate of between 37.5%. % to 38%, and then the rest of the governorates come after it.[/size]
