    Baghdad / Obelisk: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Hussein Al-Awadi, announced the arrival of the first shipment of electronic passports, and they will be issued next month in Karkh and Rusafa, adding that the electronic passport eliminates cases of forgery completely.
    Al-Awadi said during a televised interview followed by the obelisk: We detected more than 31 forged passports in Babil Governorate, adding that the electronic passport eliminates cases of forgery completely.
    He added that the Iraqi passport in the world classification is penultimate, and this is unfortunate as a country like Iraq.
    He continued that the electronic passport contains a chip and contains the citizen's data and all the information, indicating that within half an hour the citizen will receive the electronic passport.
    Regarding the description of the passport, Al-Awadi said that the virtues of this passport are that the first paper of it is placed on a scanner and that the traveler enters the airport.
    And he went on to say: We have received the first shipment of electronic passports, with a batch of 10,000 passports, and next month we will issue the first electronic passport in Karkh and Rusafa.
    He concluded his speech by saying that the electronic passport scanners will be installed at the airport gates, and electronic passport transactions cannot be promoted except with the national card.
    The issuance of the aforementioned passport comes as part of the electronic twinning project, through which the Ministry of Interior is working to link the unified card with the Passports Directorate, so that they are both within a single information network.
    Citizens are anticipating that  the new electronic passport will improve Iraq's international situation, because there are many countries that do not favor dealing with the Iraqi barometric passport.
    The Iraqi passport allows its holders to travel without a visa to 27 countries only, while holders of the passport will need to obtain a prior visa to enter about 202 countries.
