    The Oil and Natural Resources Committee in the Iraqi parliament affirmed, on Thursday, its insistence on declaring the Qayyarah refinery an investment opportunity, to improve and raise the level of production from this refinery.
    The head of the committee, Haibat al-Halbousi, said, in a press interview seen by Taqaddam, that “there is a sub-committee within the Parliamentary Oil Committee, which follows up the work, reviews and evaluates the contract concluded between the North Oil Company and the Tanker Company regarding the transportation of the Qayyara oil product.”
    Al-Halbousi added, “Qayyarah oil is heavy oil with a high sulfur content, and there is an insistence by the committee on the Ministry of Oil to have a refinery near the field or inside the Qayyarah field, in order to drain the existing quantities of the Qayyarah field.”
    And he continued: “But the reluctance of the Ministry of Oil, and the directives approved by the former minister, prevented this investment opportunity from not being announced, but the committee, through hosting the current minister, will announce this investment opportunity for the Qayyarah refinery with a capacity of 70-100 thousand barrels per day, and this will be Within the Ministry's investments and plans for investment refineries.
    It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, represented by the North Refineries Company, had signed a Memorandum of Principles Agreement (HOA) to implement the Qayyarah investment refinery project, with a capacity of (70) thousand barrels per day, with the Swedish SEAB company and the Turkish Limak company, on September 16. / September 2021, but this project has not yet seen the light.
