A member of the Parliamentary Oil Committee, Kazem Al-Tooki, confirmed that the decision of the Paris court, which stopped oil exports from the region towards Turkey, prompted the Kurdistan government to head towards Baghdad to negotiate with the federal government to guarantee and continue exports through the SOMO company.
Al-Touki said in a press interview seen by “Takadum” that “Baghdad deals with the region as an integral part of the country, as the oil wells in the region are considered part of Iraq’s national wealth, on which it relies as a source of funding for the budget.”
He added, "The oil wells in the region, after they were outside the control of the federal government, came the decision of the International Court to prevent the export of oil through the region without the knowledge and approval of the central government in Baghdad, as the export stopped through the Turkish port of Ceyhan."
And that "the cessation of export through Turkey prompted the regional government to move towards negotiations with the government in Baghdad, which in turn will work to export the region's oil through the SOMO company."
