    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Water Resources revealed that the stock of the Mosul and Haditha dams decreased by six billion cubic meters, compared to the same period last year.
Minister Aoun Diab said, "Despite the meeting he had with the Turkish ambassador, Reza Konay, regarding the dangerous situation that Iraq is going through from the drying up of rivers and his demand to achieve the agreement that took place after the country's technical delegation visited Turkey recently and to determine the quantities that should have been released on the first of last July. However, until now, the ministry has not recorded any change in water imports, which remained at their previous rates of 230 m3/sec,” according to the official newspaper.
In the same context, he expressed his hope that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Iraq would contribute to improving the water situation in Iraq, leading to an increase in the rates of water releases to Iraq after his visit.
Concerning the work of enhancing water rations, Diab indicated that "the Euphrates River will continue to be strengthened from Tharthar Lake through pumps with additional quantities of up to 80 m3/sec, with the possibility of increasing it to 120 m3/sec during the current month of August through the installation of new additional pumps recently imported by the Ministry." In addition to transferring water shares from the Tigris to the Euphrates in quantities of up to 140 m3 / sec.
He added, "Mosul Dam suffers from a lack of water storage in quantities less than last year, exceeding six billion cubic meters, and what this will represent of a negative impact on the first irrigation of crops planted during the next winter season, at a time when the ministry is trying to maintain the extension of the period of benefiting from Water storage for the longest possible period of time," pointing out that "the condition of the Haditha Dam is worse than the Mosul Dam because of the low amount of storage in it, with a number similar to its counterpart in Mosul."
