Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: Today, Friday, the Ministry of Transport set the date for contracting with the French and Korean companies to implement the suspended train project, while it announced its judicial move to expropriate lands and buildings that conflict with the project.
The director of relations and media in the ministry, Maytham Al-Safi, said that "private lawsuits have been filed in the specialized courts (Al-Kadhimiya and Al-Adhamiya) for the purpose of expropriating lands and buildings that are inconsistent with the suspended Baghdad train project."
Al-Safi added, "The Ministry of Transport is awaiting financial allocations and their release for the purpose of direct transfer and transfer of services related to the infrastructure that conflicts with the train path, and to contract with the executing companies (French Alistome and Korean Hyundai) for the purpose of implementation."
He pointed out that "the project's designs are complete, as well as all the requirements for its implementation."
And the Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Railways, Younes Khaled, confirmed in a televised interview earlier that once the budget is approved, the suspended train project will be implemented inside the capital, Baghdad, and it will be the first fruits of internal railway transportation.
Khaled explained that the first phase of the suspended train project will be 20 km long and have 22 stations inside Baghdad, on the Karkh and Rusafa sides, and in the important centers.
He added that there will be other stages if the first stage is completed, and it is hoped to serve other areas in Rusafa as well as the Bismayah region, as well as linking Baghdad Airport with a train that departs from the International Station or from the center of Baghdad, in order to reduce the burdens on the citizen and reduce traffic.
