Today, Thursday, the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab, announced an increase in the releases of the Tigris River, while indicating that Iraq will soon overcome the water crisis.
Diab said, "There is an increase in releases into the Tigris River," noting that "the releases into the Euphrates River are still few."
He explained, "Great efforts made by the ministry helped in overcoming the crisis, including the installation of a large pumping station on al-Tharthar to take advantage of the available reservoirs in the lake to strengthen the Euphrates River."
Yesterday, Wednesday, the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, confirmed to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan the need for Iraq to obtain a fair share of water.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani also called on the Turkish side to increase water releases to the Euphrates River, appreciating the recent Turkish initiative to increase water releases to the Tigris River.
