Earth News / The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed, today, Friday, that its formations are continuing the work of installing pumping crews to take advantage of the water storage available in Lake Tharthar to treat water scarcity.
The director of water resources in eastern Anbar, Raed Abd Mansi, said in a statement, received by Earth News, that "the project works to withdraw water from Tharthar Lake, which cannot be used in natural cases except in the case of installing floating pumps to feed the Euphrates River in order to reduce the effects of Water scarcity and the delivery of water rations to river tails.
He added, “The management of the Tharthar project, the project management staff, is carrying out works of installing pumping crews of different discharges, of the type (Ank), working with diesel and electric power, to enhance releases through the Dra’a Tigris channel towards the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and the provinces of Al-Dha’ib, and to secure water for liquefaction stations and agricultural lands.”
For his part, the director of the Fallujah and al-Tharthar site affiliated to the Department of Executing the Works of River Dredging, Youssef Amish Abboud, indicated that “technical and engineering staffs are working to remove mud deposits from the front of the al-Tarthar regulator, with the aim of smooth water flow and regulation of water releases.”
He added, "The works include excavating the basin for the Tharthar station, removing the earthen embankment between the Tharthar channel and the basin, and raising the level of the platform to install the station to the required levels."
And he indicated that “the works are proceeding according to the plans and timings specified, noting that the Fallujah and Tharthar site is working on expanding the pumps basin for the purpose of increasing the number of floating pumps and opening the cutting dam from the side of Lake Tharthar to the basin of the pumping crew.”
For his part, Jamil Ghadir, Director of the Tharthar Project, said, “The General Authority for the Operation and Maintenance of the Tigris River Basin is carrying out works of installing and operating floating pumps in Lake Tharthar to treat water scarcity and ensure the delivery of water rations to the provinces of al-Dha’ib and the liquefaction stations spread on the main rivers and agricultural lands.”
