    Baghdad today - Baghdad
A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Representative Yasser Iskandar and Tut, confirmed today, Sunday (September 3, 2023), that an “important” meeting will be held within the next 48 hours, to discuss the repercussions of the events in Kirkuk.
Wetwat told "Baghdad Today", "Yesterday's events in Kirkuk are worrisome, but they were quickly contained through a series of urgent decisions by the Sudanese government, and gradual calm has returned. Today, the process of opening roads and life returning to normal has begun."
He added, "His committee will hold an important meeting during the next 48 hours to discuss the developments and events of Kirkuk, and at the same time it calls on the security forces to respect the citizen and prevent compromising the security of the state," stressing that "there are decisions that will be issued after the meeting."
He pointed out that "his committee is closely following the situation in Kirkuk and is in direct contact with the security leaders to find out any developments."
    Kirkuk is administered from Baghdad
Meanwhile, the leader in the coordination framework, Jabbar Odeh, confirmed, earlier today, Sunday (September 3, 2023), that the situation in Kirkuk governorate will be at the top of the files that the framework will discuss at its next meeting.
Odeh said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", that "the rapid events in Kirkuk yesterday raised public opinion in Iraq, but the speed of the Baghdad government's move and taking a series of urgent decisions contributed to containing the situation, which was tense in some areas."
He added, "The administration of Kirkuk by the federal government is an irreversible strategic choice and is supported by most of the components and sees it as a fair and equitable situation that prevents any crises in a city that constitutes a mini-Iraq," pointing out that "Kirkuk will be at the top of the files that will be discussed in the next framework meeting."
Odeh pointed out that "an investigation committee has already started its work to find out the causes of casualties in the Kirkuk events," stressing "the need to avoid sharp statements that lead to fueling events that do not serve any party, because stability and security are the collective interest of all components without exception."
    The night of disturbing events
Yesterday evening, Saturday (September 2, 2023), the Kirkuk governorate witnessed security tension that developed into shootings by unknown persons, which led to deaths and injuries, during a Kurdish “counter” protest against the Arab sit-in refusing to hand over the advanced headquarters of joint operations to the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
Earlier today, Sunday (September 3, 2023), the Kirkuk governorate police spokesman, Amer Shawani, announced the lifting of the curfew and the opening of the road between Kirkuk and Erbil, after the sit-down withdrawal.
Shawani said, in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", that "the curfew has been lifted and the road between Kirkuk and Erbil opened, after the protesters withdrew from in front of the joint operations headquarters."
He added, "The order to hand over the operations headquarters to Barzani's party has been suspended until further notice."
Yesterday, Saturday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, directed “to impose a curfew in Kirkuk and to initiate large-scale security operations in the areas that witnessed riots in order to inspect them thoroughly,” calling also, “all political parties and social and popular actors, to take their role in preventing sedition and maintaining security, stability and order in Kirkuk province.
