Representative Yasser Al-Husseini confirmed, on Sunday, that there was a preliminary parliamentary agreement to tighten the punishment for what he called the evil actors in the drug trade in Iraq.

Al-Husseini said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “There are three direct dangers to the drug trade in Iraq, the most prominent of which is the creation of societal chaos, the increase in crime rates, and its direct impact on security and civil peace, especially since it has turned into a danger equivalent to terrorism.”
He added, "There is a preliminary parliamentary agreement to tighten the penalty to reach the death penalty against the transporter, dealer, and promoter of narcotic drugs, as they represent the elements of evil in a scourge that threatens Iraqi society," pointing out that "the anti-drug law that is scheduled to be introduced soon will contain many important variables that will help in confronting... "A threat to the country's security."
He pointed out that "the war on drugs and ending their danger is a priority in the security system in Iraq, and there is parliamentary support for the Ministry of Interior and its formations in carrying out broad campaigns to eliminate networks and gangs that promote drugs and narcotic substances."
The Ministry of Interior had succeeded in killing and arresting many of the most prominent drug traffickers in the country after violent clashes with them in the past months.
