    {Local: Al-Furat News} Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding with Jordan to enhance cooperation in the fields of specifications, conformity assessment, standards and quality.
    The Ministry of Planning said in a statement, a copy of which {Al-Furat News} received, that the memorandum was “signed on the Iraqi side by the head of the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control in the Ministry of Planning, while it was signed on behalf of the Jordanian government by the Director General of the Jordanian Standards Organization (JSO), and in the presence of the acting Iraqi ambassador to Amman at the headquarters of the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
    The head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, Hussein Ali Dawoud, stressed that “the memorandum will be the beginning of more cooperation at various levels between Jordan and Iraq,” noting that “harmonizing specifications and mutual recognition of conformity certificates would work to improve the quality of industry in both countries.” He added. The memorandum represents a legal and regulatory framework for cooperation and exchange of experiences in the field of specifications and conformity assessment between the two institutions.”
    He pointed out, "The memorandum includes taking the necessary measures for mutual recognition of calibration certificates and metrological marks, cooperation in the field of inter-comparisons of tests, laboratory examinations and calibration, and resolving disputes, indicating that the two parties will work to coordinate the positions of the two countries in regional and international forums."
    For her part, Director General of the Jordanian Foundation, Abeer Barakat Al-Zuhair, said, “The signing of the memorandum comes as a continuation of the great efforts made by the Jordanian and Iraqi parties in order to reach economic integration and bilateral cooperation based on strong bonds of Arab brotherhood,” indicating that “the memorandum will contribute to the flow of goods between the two sides.” “And reduce obstacles to intra-trade, in a way that achieves common benefits for both countries.”
    In addition, the Iraqi Chargé d'Affaires in Amman, Munif Ali Hussein, said that this memorandum represents great importance in the developing economic relations between Amman and Baghdad, stressing the importance of increasing and strengthening cooperation in all fields.
    The memorandum of understanding stipulates the establishment of technical and scientific cooperation and the exchange of information, expertise and training in the field of specifications, standards and conformity assessment in a way that serves the interests of the two countries.
