Shafaq News/ The Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Regional Government announced today, Sunday, that the international coalition renewed its support to accelerate the steps of the reform process in the ministry in light of the understanding between the US Department of Defense and the Ministry of Peshmerga.
A ministry statement received by Shafaq News Agency said that the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga, Lieutenant General Issa Uzair, received today, Sunday, the Commander of the Coalition Forces in the Kurdistan Region, Colonel Thurman, and his accompanying delegation.
He explained that during the meeting, reform in the Ministry of Peshmerga was discussed in light of the agreement concluded between the US Department of Defense and the Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Regional Government, pointing out that the two sides emphasized accelerating the steps of the reform process in the Ministry of Peshmerga.
The statement added that in this regard, the Commander of the coalition forces in the Kurdistan Region announced his support for implementing the steps of the reform process in the ministry.
In November 2018, the United States, Britain, and Germany prepared a project to reform the Ministry of Peshmerga, consisting of 35 points, aiming to unify forces while institutionalizing and restructuring the Peshmerga forces.
The Kurdistan Regional Parliament approved the terms of the agreement, and work on the project is being carried out by two groups, one from the Ministry of Peshmerga and the other from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
The main goal of the project is to unify forces with the institutionalization and restructuring of the Peshmerga forces.
