Earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, directed the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the circumstances of the incident in the Makhmour sector, following a clash between army and Peshmerga forces.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief, Major General Yahya Rasool, said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today”: “The Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces followed up on the circumstances of the incident that occurred within the Makhmour sector, which led to the occurrence of three victims and the injury of seven others from both sides near one of the... Security points.
Rasoul added, "Accordingly, the Commander-in-Chief directed the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the circumstances of the incident and determine its merits, and the sacrifices that resulted from it."
According to Rasool, Al-Sudani stressed, "to all leaders and commanders at all levels, the need for self-restraint, whether from the federal government units or the Peshmerga, and the importance of acting with great wisdom, giving priority to higher interests, strengthening common interests, and missing the opportunity for the enemies of Iraq, which gave a message to the entire world of the unity of its proud people."
A telegram seen by “Baghdad Today” stated, “At 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, a problem occurred between the Iraqi Army - 14th Division and the Peshmerga forces regarding the right to hold (3) military points located at the top of Mount Qarachogh - east.” Makhmour District Center - specifically the side overlooking the Makhmour Turkish refugee camp.”
