    Today, Friday (November 10, 2023), the Parliamentary Economics Committee confirmed that Iraq possesses three qualifications that push it into the global gas market. 
    Committee member Mudar Al-Karawi told Baghdad Al-Youm, “Iraq has gas fields in the western and eastern regions of the country with good reserves, in addition to the escalation in the pace of associated gas investment in its oil fields, which for many decades have been burned in large quantities, resulting in environmental pollution and material losses in the millions.” Dollars per month according to the assessment of the competent authorities.”
    He explained, "The volume of gas reserves in Iraq may increase at large rates, especially since there are large areas in which no precise exploration operations have been conducted, meaning that the gas map is not defined," noting that "the country has 3 qualifications to enter the gas market, the most prominent of which is the possibility of production and export through... It has a strategic location.”
    He pointed out that "the efforts of the government and the Ministry of Oil to accelerate the pace of associated gas investment are continuing at a good pace and may reach the stage of sufficiency within less than 3 years," pointing out that "achieving sufficiency means stability in electricity generation and reducing the budget for payments to purchase imported gas, which costs Iraq billions." dollars annually.
     On (last April 10), the advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Saleh, estimated the losses of burning and importing gas at 12 billion dollars annually, stressing that it is a huge cost to the oil resources and to the country’s financial resources.
    He pointed out in a statement to the official news agency that developing the energy sector requires investing in this gas associated with oil extraction, especially for the purposes of using power stations.
    Saleh expects that Iraq will reach “a zero rate of gas associated with combustion... during the next two years,” as the Iraqi government aims to “stop burning gas in a way that protects the Iraqi environment, and then use it for the purposes of power plants.”
